Farmer to Farmer Program Visits an Organic Greenhouse Operation
Tour and learn from a small organic greenhouse operation growing fresh vegetables for local markets.
The market for fresh vegetables doesn’t stop when outside production becomes impossible. Puget Sound consumers still want healthy salad greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. With centralized food production jeopardized by contamination and transportation issues, year-round regionally based greenhouse production is becoming cost-effective and profitable once again.
Join us Saturday, March 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. when we visit Dominion Organics, a certified organic greenhouse operation located at 7110 Enterprise Rd. in Ferndale, WA. Bring a brown bag lunch and a small lawn or camping chair for a lunch-time picnic in the greenhouse.
Owner/operator Blair McHenry, an organic grower and consultant to the BC hothouse industry for over 25 years will lead the tour and discussion on topics including greenhouse structures, heating, and fertility as well as pest and disease issues.
