A five-day hands-on professional development workshop at Quillisascut Farm™ for College of Education faculty and administrators involved in training the next generation of primary and secondary school teachers.

School gardens offer limitless opportunities for environmental learning. In addition to activities with gardening, composting, building raised beds, transplanting garden starts and learning about small livestock care, participants will gain exposure to:

Research and practice in learning gardens with Dr. Veronica Gaylie
Curriculum development to intertwine current instruction with garden experiences
Basic information on organic farm production.
Simple ways to tap into and learn from your local food system
Essential Learning Requirements and hands-on environmental learning
Biodiversity and our food environment.
Participants stay at the farm with bunkhouse-style lodging and all meals provided, tuition is generously funded by a grant from the DeVlieg Family Foundation.  Please join us for this fun and rewarding professional development workshop.

Veronica Gaylie, PhD, is a Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. She has worked as a high school English teacher and is now a teacher educator in interdisciplinary, ecology-based learning. She is the founder of the Learning Garden at UBC Okanagan. Her book: The Learning Garden: Ecology, Teaching and Transformation (2009) is published by Peter Lang.
