Chicken Management 101: Small-Scale Egg Production–
April 4, 2010

Puyallup –Homeowners and homesteaders are invited to a 3-hour workshop focused on small scale egg production. Space is limited for the April 4th class that will include classroom instruction and field activities.

More and more homeowners are finding the interest to produce their own eggs in a relatively small commonly urban space.  Choosing the proper breed, where the chickens will live, and knowing how to care for them all are important to producing eggs but also to minimize problems in an urban/suburban environment.

WSU Extension and Pierce Conservation district have co-sponsored this event by bringing together local experts and commercial egg producers to discuss: Municipal Regulations, Chicken Coop Design, Food and Water Needs, Disease and Insects of Chickens, Waste Management, and How to Handle those Wonderful Eggs.  Participants will also get a chance to see some chicken coop designs in person. For more information contact Chris Benedict at (253) 798-7028 or at chrisbenedict@wsu.edu. Information can also be found at: http://pierce.wsu.edu/ag/index.html
